Bass disappears on your phone? The first fix is not more volume.

FIX 1: ADD A LITTLE GRIT
Put a distortion or saturation effect you already have on your 808. Turn Drive up slowly. Switch the effect off and on at a similar volume. Stop when the notes come through without sounding fizzy. Check your phone and headphones.

FIX 2: SHORTEN THE TAIL
A long 808 can run over the next kick. Shorten the note. If it keeps ringing, lower your sampler's Release. Keep the slides you love.

FIX 3: LOWER WHAT IS HIDING THE BASS
A loud melody or pad can hide your 808. Turn that part down a little while the whole beat plays. Stop when the bass comes through and the melody still feels right.

THE FINAL CHECK
- You can follow the bass notes.
- The kick and snare still come through.
- It still feels good in headphones.

Your phone will not feel like a subwoofer. You just want the bass line to stay in the song.
